Peptide Storage Guide
Correct storage is the single most important factor in maintaining research peptide quality. This guide covers storage requirements by compound type, the difference between lyophilised and reconstituted storage, light sensitivity considerations, and our 12-month quality guarantee.
Lyophilised (freeze-dried) storage
Store unopened lyophilised vials below 5°C immediately on arrival. At this temperature, all Vitalis compounds are guaranteed for quality up to 12 months with free replacement if any quality issue arises. The freeze-dried format is inherently stable — shipping at ambient temperature does not compromise the compound.
Reconstituted storage
Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water or sterile water, peptides must be refrigerated at 2-8°C. We recommend use within 30 days for optimal quality. Bacteriostatic water (containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol) extends viability compared to sterile water by inhibiting microbial growth.
Light sensitivity
Certain compounds — notably Glutathione, Melanotan I, and Melanotan II — are photosensitive and degrade under direct light exposure. Store these in original packaging, wrap vials in aluminium foil, or transfer reconstituted solutions to amber vials.
What degrades peptides
Temperature fluctuations (repeated warming and cooling), bacterial contamination (non-sterile technique when drawing from vials), oxidation (exposure to air), and light exposure are the primary degradation factors. Consistent cold storage and clean handling technique are the best defences.
Storage by compound type
Standard Peptides
Most research peptides fall into this category. Stable compounds with straightforward storage requirements.
Lyophilised
Below 5°C — guaranteed quality up to 12 months
Reconstituted
2-8°C — recommended use within 30 days
Light-Sensitive Compounds
These compounds degrade when exposed to direct light. Store in original packaging or wrap vials in foil. Amber vials are ideal for reconstituted solutions.
Lyophilised
Below 5°C, protected from light — guaranteed quality up to 12 months
Reconstituted
2-8°C, protected from light — recommended use within 30 days
Compounds in this category
Mitochondrial & Metabolic Peptides
These compounds benefit from consistent cold storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Minimise time at room temperature during handling.
Lyophilised
Below 5°C — guaranteed quality up to 12 months
Reconstituted
2-8°C — recommended use within 30 days. More sensitive to temperature fluctuations.
